Film Colorist
For Narrative Filmmakers
As a New York City (NYC)-based film colorist and director, I approach color correction and grading from a story-centric perspective and then employ the technical skills needed to create, quality aesthetic, consistency, and meaning in every frame. My aim is to establish a clear communication and understanding of the director’s aims and then to help them enhance the emotional impact of their story with the visuals, so their film can attract and affect audiences, regardless of production budget.

Process
Having honed the process to the T during Covid, I now perform all my color correction & grading remotely from my home studio, which actually works better for many clients, as it allows me to do the technical lifting without the director or dp present, allowing them to only be present to manage the creative decisions. The following process has generated fantastic results for my clients:
Review & Consult
Prior to signing on as your colorist, I'll review a cut of your film, so we can explore opportunities and set expectations. Then we'll talk about your vision for the film and how we can make it happen.
HEro Images
Once I've been brought on board, I'll set up your film in my system and handle any technical conforming challenges. Then, I'll color a representative image from each scene, so you can approve the overall look and direction I'm heading, before proceeding.
1st Pass
Once you've approved the hero images for each scene, I'll color your entire film down to the last detail, asking any questions that pop up along the way. When I'm done, I'll send you a cut of the film.
Revisions
Using my review software, you'll be able to note moment-by-moment notes for revisions as you watch the 1st pass, which automatically show up in my software. I'll implement these detailed revisions and then send an updated copy.
Spot Check
At this point, you'll provide any last revision notes. Typically, at this point, we're just honing a few moments to get them just to your liking, but the film is mostly complete. Quite often, this is only one or two quick revisions.
Final Delivery
I'll run off the final film for your final approval and then send over all the master files for your editor to conform back into the master project file. I'll also answer any questions they have.

COLOR CORRECTION & GRADING
I spoke on a panel of other colorists to share our take on the process of color correction & grading and how directors could enter the process with enough knowledge to get right to it and wield the full pallete a colorist offers. If you have more time for a deep-dive, you can check it out here:
